18 karat gold care
Try to clean your jewellery at least once a month to keep the shine and sparkle.
To clean 18kt gold jewellery soak your jewellery in a bowl of lukewarm water with a couple drops of mild soap for up to 15minutes. If you are using a sink, please don’t forget to close your drain. Pipes are not ideal for storing your jewellery and you may miss it.
Gently scrub your jewellery with a soft toothbrush of cotton bud to remove any stubborn dirt. Rinse your jewellery in clean water and rub dry with a soft, lint free cloth. Do not use paper towels or tissues, as they may contain abrasive particles that will scratch 18ktgold. Gently rub your jewellery to increase its shine. Any residue moisture may hasten tarnishing.
Make sure the jewellery is completely dry before storing in your SJC jewellery box or soft pouch.
Avoid the use of harsh substances such as chlorine or ammonia to clean your 18kt gold jewellery. Avoid the use of toothpaste, baking sodas or other cosmetic exfoliates to clean your 18kt jewellery, as they will scratch away the surface.
When you receive a white gold piece from us, white gold is always rhodium plated. The Rhodium that covers the very pale yellow gold underneath gives the white look that you see. Rhodium is a hard, durable, white metal that can be polished to a very high shine.
The white look will last varying amounts of time depending on general wear and tear. Rhodium on Earrings can last a lifetime. Rhodium on rings will wear more quickly at the point of contact, such as the shank. Visible ‘yellowing’ will appear. If this starts to happen please contact us here and we would be more than happy to quote you on having your jewellery re-rhodium plated.
Pearls are an organic gem and should be handled with care.
The best way to keep your pearl jewellery looking its best is by wearing them. Your body’s natural oils keep pearls lustrous. When dressing, put pearls on only after your perfume has dried and after applying make-up, creams, hairspray or other potentially harmful cosmetic substances that might stain them.
For routine care wipe your pearls with a soft, lint-free cloth as soon as you take them off. The cloth can be dampened with water or it can be dry. Warm water with mild soap is only advised for occasional thorough cleaning. Allow the pearls to air dry before storing in your SJC jewellery box or soft pouch.
Avoid having pearls ultrasonic or steam cleaned.
Avoid cleaning your pearls with solutions that contain ammonia or harsh detergents.
Store your SJC jewellery in the original protective box or soft pouch provided by us upon purchase. This will prevent your jewellery from chipping, tarnishing or becoming tangled with other jewellery.
Always keep your jewellery in a safe, dry place.
Avoid bathing in a hot tub, showering, swimming in the pool or sea in your jewellery. Chlorines and other substances may tarnish and damage precious metals and erode gemstones.
If undergoing strenuous activity we suggest removing your jewellery so as not to damage or break it.
Before sleeping we recommend removing your jewellery to avoid it being knocked and damaged in the night or becoming tangled.
Be aware that damp and hot conditions may tarnish and erode your jewellery. Keep this in mind when on holiday sunbathing.
